The music on our site is a combination of podcasts, mixtapes and individual tracks. All of it is produced or collated by people that are connected to Dephect in one way or another. From producer, rapper and DJ friends, to artists that we respect in the scene, and labels that we support, most of the music we help promote is independent and free to download. Enjoy.

Versa steps away from his familiar dubbed out grooves and puts together a beat tape of hip hop instrumentals exclusively for Dephect. This half hour mixtape showcases a more raw and direct approach to his production and is heavily soulful and jazzy, with influences from Simiah, Afta-1, Madlib, Lewis Parker and more.

It's the final edition of Echo Base for 2014. Mr Brown & Chris Headcount played a few new joints before going over their favorite cuts from the past 12 months. Once they were done reminiscing they introduced this months special guest - the break digger, vinyl trader & all round top bloke Chris Gibbs from HBS Music Archaeology. Chris chatted to the crew about his vinyl trade among other things and played some killer tracks for the listeners. We hope you enjoy the show and we'll see you next year. Happy holidays ya'll.

Incase you don't know already, DJ Pings is the founder of one of the dopest independent Hip-Hop labels to ever emerge from the UK, King Underground Records. This mini mix is the first in a series, hopefully of many, and gives you a little taste of the music that Pings is into and the vibe that he represents through the label.

"Originally I was just going to do these mini mixes for myself for some iPod action, but then I thought it might be nice to post them up via Dephect. The idea is that each mix will fit into the next, so it's like an ongoing project. All very simple, not really about skills, just dope music, hip hop and breaks."

To celebrate 10 years since the release of his debut album 'The Enthusiast', Evil Ed has joined forces with Donnie Propa to drop this mixtape through Dephect. Mixed purely from vinyl it showcases classics, rarities and remixes all produced by the evil one! Featuring tracks with Jehst, Taskforce, Tommy Evans, Ricochet, Microdisiacs and many more.

This month's edition of the podcast is a double header for October and November! It coincided with Mr Brown's birthday bash so Echo Base was packed to the rafters with good friends. Mr B opened the show as usual with some brand new Hip Hop releases then Chris Headcount stepped up to the decks with his inaugural, eclectic set. DJ Getz also stepped up and showed us why he's becoming such a solid Echo Base regular. At the end of the show we ran our first competition. It's open for anyone in the world to enter and you could win yourself some limited edition vinyl, CD's & Dephect Clothing. You gotta be innit to winnit. PEACE

This track is taken from the forthcoming 'Fredfades Remixes' project which is soon to be released on vinyl by KingUnderground Records.

For this project Fredfades remixes nine of his favorite rap songs. Dense layers of samples from hard to find records, crisp drums and ruthless bass lines are some of the ingredients Fred uses to create new versions of these Hip-Hop gems. Some of them seem to have come out edgier and more interesting than the original songs. Legendary to some, obscure to others, all the acapellas have been laced with the jazzyness Fades has become known to represent. All beats bar one were produced on the cult status SP1200 machine (the Street Smartz beat was produced using the MPC 2000XL). A few of the tracks were co-produced by Deckdaddy & John Rice (Oslo SP Ensemble). The result is a wide range of super tight raps and the distinct and consistent style of a young producer with an old soul. If you appreciate timeless rap flows over some bold reinventions of the "golden era sound", this is a must cop record!
